Jean Tinguely
Prolific Swiss artist Jean Tinguely (1925-1991) was a pioneer of electro-mechanical kinetic sculpture, in the Dada lineage. He devised and constructed dynamic but purposefully meaningless assemblages of found and scrap materials. In the mid 1950’s he began his Metamatic series of generative mark making machines.
The Museum Tinguely in Basel Switzerland is dedicated to his work and ideas. In 2008, the Museum Tinguely staged the exhibition Art Machines – Machine Art which brought together numerous drawing machine art projects by various artists.
